How would it be possible to have an unrelated twin?

Imagine you have a twin, but you don't know them and aren't actually related. You have different parents. And you aren't adopted. How is this possible?

I had a dream where there was someone who looks identical to me. More identical than a doppelgänger. And I don't know them. That's what sparked this question.

Your subconscious can create weird dreams

Hi, everyone. Welcome to the DreamVerse, where we discuss weird, interesting, fascinating dreams that I have. Because, I don't know... For some reason my subconscious creates these weird stories while I'm asleep. And I just think I have to tell them to someone. So this is a very strange dream, that I just think you would like to hear.

When I first spotted the doppelgänger / twin

I spotted a photo somewhere of someone that looked like me. They had slightly shorter hair than I have right now, but it was like hanging loose. It's not even like the person was a doppelgänger as in they kind of looked like me. No, it looked like me like a while back, but I know it's like a recent photo. And I say it LOOKS LIKE me, not it IS me, because I know it's not me.

The slight differences between us were more subtle than between twins

When I paid closer attention, I could see that there were some features that were off. At first glance, you would think it was me, but when you looked closer, you could see that, for example, the teeth were exactly how my teeth looked before I got these invisible braces.

And like I'm saying, it's a recent photo which means it's almost like a twin, but a doppelgänger because I don't know the person. And I think they were very a similar age to me.

And this kind of reminds me of an episode from The Blacklist. It's a crime TV show.

They were these people that looked identical to one another, but even more so than identical twins. They almost looked like the same person. They didn't even have to have the same age, like some of them were one year apart.

How these people have the same DNA but don't come from the same parents

Different parents were getting children through IVF through the same company, but a criminal tampered with it. That's how these triplets ended up having different parents.

So they duplicated this DNA so that they have the same genetics and they look the same. But they changed like one component to test how that would affect their survival in certain conditions. So it was essentially experimentation on human children.

Yeah, okay, um. It's messed up, but it just relates to my dream.

The Blacklist episode has a much more sinister explanation for this scenario

So hmm. I don't know. They were kind of trying to create like the ultimate human, which is kind of like genetic engineering. But this version of it is super messed up since you're not even having anyone's permission to do this to these people. But it just relates to my scenario where in the dream there was someone who looked almost exactly like me, but I didn't know them, they weren't related to me.

How would YOU explain this?

So I don't know how to explain that, if that was a real scenario, because obviously the Blacklist thing is also just fiction. Let me know what you think about this absolutely weird dream. And do you have any explanation for how that could even be true if it were real life?
